Cycle training courses and activities in MK

Each of our courses has a series of progressive outcomes which can be used in training to take the complete beginner all the way to being able to ride anywhere cycling is permitted.

“Life is like riding a bicycle. In order to keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

Albert Einstein

Bikeability Level 1

This course is ideal if you have just learnt how to ride. It’s the next step on the cycling skills ladder. Level 1 training takes place in a traffic free environment, usually a quiet car park or the school playground and involves mastery and control of the bicycle in off-road settings, preparing trainees for on-road cycling.

Bikeability Level 2

Our most popular cycle training course teaches trainees how to cycle on local quiet roads and Redways. Progressing on from Level 1, this course takes you on to the road, and introduces a range of manoeuvres such as starting your journey, understanding road positioning, how to pass a parked vehicle, turn at a junction and communicate with other road users. This is a brilliant course for anyone who is able to cycle – for those that have been cycling for years, or not much at all. Gain confidence on the road; learn how to share space and cycle safely.

Bikeability Level 3

Once you have successfully completed Level 2 training, you are ready for Level 3, completed on more challenging busier roads with complex junctions and roundabouts, including hazard awareness and risk management on all roads where cycling is permitted. Training is usually adapted to participants needs and requirements and may include planning a route from home to school, or to work.

Bikeability Plus Courses

Bikeability Learn to Ride

Three older people riding their bike at a park. Every year, over 100 people, mostly adults, take part in our one hour introductory Learn to Ride courses. Participants range in age from 5 to 75 so it just goes to show you’re never too old to learn. Cycling can give everybody their independence to get out and about on a bike more safely.

This course is ideal for people who want to get back in the saddle or learn how to ride. Just an hour of one to one tuition should be enough to put many of you on your way to a summer of two-wheeled exploration!

Bikeability Balance

A great activity for the younger years to have fun, get fit and finely tune their balance and coordination skills. Most children quickly progress on to pedal cycling throughout the course. Our fleet of sprinta balance bikes are suitable for children between the age of 4 – 10. All of the balance bikes quickly and easily convert in to pedal bikes.

Bikeability Fix

Even experienced riders can benefit from taking part in a basic bike maintenance course. From simple bike safety checks to fixing a puncture and adjusting your gears and brakes, increasing your knowledge will help to save you money and increase your confidence when out on a long ride. This course is a great place to start.

Bikeability Parent

This is a Bikeability level 2 course for adults and / or families and teaches trainees how to cycle confidently and safely on todays’ roads and Redways. Great for riders of all abilities, whether you’ve been cycling 20 years, or just a few weeks. It is particularly beneficial for families to learn how to cycle safely together; for parents of children who have completed Level 2 Bikeability; and for teachers who are keen to pick up some new skills and gain a better understanding of the Bikeability Cycle Training that we deliver within schools.

Bikeability Transition

Primarily aimed at year 6 students who are about to move up to their secondary school, but suitable for anyone who wants to plan a cycle route to their school or workplace. This course involves route planning and a ride from A – B.

Bikeability Ride

Fun, leisurely group bike rides from June through to September – an ideal way to practice those newly learned skills, meet people and explore the local area.
