Autonomous vehicles

Testing driverless cars

Milton Keynes will soon see self-driving vehicles (also known as pods or driverless cars) for short journeys around the centre of the city!

On 3rd December 2014 the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osbourne, announced £10 million of funding from Innovate UK for the testing of driverless cars.

Just four cities in the UK were awarded funding to test autonomous vehicles in the real world and Milton Keynes is one! For more details please see the news story: “Driverless cars: 4 cities get green light for everyday trials.”

Leading the innovative project, Transport Systems Catapult successfully put a self-driving vehicle on UK public streets for the first time on October 2016. For more information about the connected and automated vehicles project please visit the Transport Systems Catapult Website.
