The Big Walk and Wheel

Mon 21st Mar 2022 - 1st Apr

Join the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooting challenge.

Sustrans Big Pedal is back but it’s got a new name. The Big Walk and Wheel it is the UK’s largest inter-school walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling challenge.

The aim of the Big Walk and Wheel is that it inspires pupils, staff and parents to choose from a range of active modes for their journey to school.

The challenge will run between the 21 March to 1 April 2022. Schools can join in for one, five or ten days.

When you register and log data you will be entered into a draw to receive a free access to Living Streets Travel Tracker!

Registration is now open here

How does the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel challenge work?

On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils, staff and parents cycling or scooting to school.

Whether schools are open or not, your pupils can participate. Pupils learning remotely can take an active journey from home or complete a physical challenge.

We have not just one, but two competitions to support the Big Walk and Wheel.

Poster Competition
We are looking for the best poster that shows people how great travelling active can be and how it can benefit them and the environment. The posters could all be part of a display in the
school until we choose a winner, and that winning poster will be part of a cycling display at Hazard Alley!

Hazard Alley Competition
The school that records the most active journeys on the MK Leader board will win a free trip to ‘Hazard Alley’, the Milton Keynes Safety Centre, for one class (up to 30 students).

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is register for at least one day, and upload your results to the website!
