Embracing flexible working to improve your green credentials

In the last ten years, technology has undoubtedly changed the way we work. Remote and agile working are increasingly becoming buzzwords across business. Flexible working has been shown to improve engagement, happiness, and efficiency. Creating a working scenario that removes employee stresses and strains wins on a number of levels and can have a positive impact on your green credentials whilst creating a happier workforce.

What is flexible working?

Flexible working means that you give your employees the option of where and when they can choose to work. It allows employers and employees to decide how they can work to the best of their ability.

By enabling your team to work from where they are comfortable, you can gain on two fronts.

Firstly, your team are more likely to be proactive and high-achieving if they are working in an environment that they are comfortable in. Whether that is working from home, a local coffee shop, or local co-working space, the overall output of workers who are encouraged to choose their workspace is higher than those who are made to visit a work site.

Secondly, by encouraging staff who can work remotely to take up that benefit, your company can reduce the amount of traffic travelling to your site. This reduction can have a positive impact on the local community, reducing congestion during high traffic periods during the day.  It could also even reduce the size of office required and overheads.

How to incorporate flexible working into your organisation

Once you’ve made the decision to incorporate flexible working practices within your business, simple software solutions can ensure that your workforce is able to communicate with each other in real-time.

Slack is a fantastic app that allows for realtime messaging, while Trello is a project management tool that can be installed on smartphones.

For a more integrated approach, Microsoft Teams provides a comms app and the ability to change and edit documents in realtime.
