Free ‘Bike Registering’ event to get your bike security marked and added to the national cycle database in case of theft.

Thames Valley Police and Milton Keynes Council’s Cycling Team will be providing free bike register security marking at events across Milton Keynes throughout the summer. We use ‘BikeRegister’ Visible Marking to permanently mark the frame of your bike with a unique BikeRegister ID and add it to the national cycle database. The database is used by every police force in the UK to search for stolen and recovered bikes.

You can find all Bike Register events using the site search function for ‘bike register’.

How Bike Register Works

BikeRegister security mark etching on bike frame

The chemical used etches the coating of your bike frame with a visible permanent blue mark, leaving a neat unique mark which does not affect the frame’s integrity*. A tamper resistant warning label is also added to your frame to warn potential thieves that the bike is marked.

You’ll need to fill in a form with some basic details about your bike and some personal details. TVP send this information to BikeRegister who will add it to their national database. If your bike is stolen and then recovered by the police, they will check the bike for security marks and then check the national database – reuniting you with your trusty steed.

More information about Bike Register can be found on their website www.bikeregister.com

  • *N.B. Any bike with a painted or lacquered finish can be marked with the standard plastic marking compound. However, if your bike frame is uncoated carbon fibre, uncoated aluminium or uncoated titanium, then this product will not be suitable. These frames can be identified with a laminated, tamper resistant warning label with unique QR code that can be scanned instantly with a smart phone. Deters would-be thieves.

What Else is On Offer?

Alongside bike registration, you’ll also find Dr Bike, and an E-Bike Experience pop-up.

Bring your bike to Dr Bike for free maintenance checks and advice on brakes, tyres, gears, and overall roadworthiness, with on-the-spot fixes if possible.

The E-Bike Experience is a council initiative to encourage more cycling. Milton Keynes Council is offering residents a free one-month loan of an electric bike. We’ve partnered with Fully Charged Silverstone to run the project on our behalf. Fancy trying out an e-bike? Contact Fully Charged now at silverstone.info@fullycharged.com or call 07377 153599.
