New EV Experience Centre opens in MK
The UK’s first ever EV Experience Centre opened it’s doors to the public on Saturday 22 July 2017. The centre has been funded from a portion of the £9m grant received by MK Council to support getting more electric vehicles onto our roads.
The Secretary of State Secretary of State for roads, local transport and devolution, Jesse Norman MP, visited the EV Experience Centre at the press launch on Wednesday 19 July and addressed the national and trade press.
The Electric Vehicle Experience Centre (EVEC) is located in the Centre:MK between Boots and F.Hind jewellers. The 4,000 square foot unit features a car showroom displaying different car brands including BMW, Nissan, Renault, VW, Kia and Mitsubishi.
Showcasing the latest EVs from a range of leading vehicle manufacturers, visitors will be able to discuss all elements of owning and running an electric vehicle, as well as having the option to test a range of cars on local roads.
It’s the first brand neutral centre for electric vehicles and it’s here in Milton Keynes. Staff are called ‘EV gurus’ and they are there to provide the public with completely free, impartial advice and education on electric cars, based on the individual’s need and requirements. EV Gurus know everything there is to know about switching to an electric vehicle.
You can also take a test drive in one of the fleet of vehicles parked just outside the shopping centre.
It’s estimated that 1 million electric vehicles (EVs) will be on UK roads by 2022 so a visit to the centre is a great way to ask any questions you have about how much it costs, where to buy, how to charge a vehicle and try one for yourself.
